Getting Results

Is your self-hypnosis working? "They" say it takes 21 days to make a change. Technically you'd need to do your intentioned imagining daily (even better: twice daily) for 3 weeks before saying it didn't work. Even if it's only for a minute each time. However, if it's something you don't really want to do, it won't work even if you went to a hypnotist daily for a year. I know because my self-hypnosis has been very successful in areas like confidence and procrastination, but when it comes to quitting pizza, it's just not something I feel willing to give up. Instead I've learned to get more specific about what pizza I eat (home made hypoallergenic vs. the gluten-dairy-yeast fest that taunts me on every street corner). Self Hypnosis Workshops

I recently offered a 2-hr Self-Hypnosis Workshop for about 12 youth performance artists aged 13-23. They focused intently on how to script their goals properly, and thrust themselves fully into the process of introspection and relaxation.

I offered another Self-Hypnosis mini workshop (about 40 minutes) to a group of 10 adults at a life coaching retreat and about 20 adults at a yoga, meditation, and nutrition retreat. Adults start out more skeptical but those who get it and want it go for it. It always amazes me how much impact some participants choose to attain in a simple 5 or 10 minute session. I don't even bother with the helium balloon exercise because scripting and visualizing a goal state is tantalizing enough.

I've taken to enjoying little bursts of self-hypnosis - on the ttc, waiting in line, etc. A few seconds of mindful anticipation are better than none.

Answers to your most common questions.

How does the process work?
--First appointments usually take 1.5 hour to allow time for Q&A
--I spend about 1/2hr asking you to describe the current situation and then together we construct your goal state
--Issues and goals of all sizes and degrees may be approached with hypnosis - anything from chronic stress to preparing for a big meeting can be eased with hypnosis.
--I use guided visualization and suggestion to help you to relax and focus inward (10min) I then deliver the messages of change that we built together (about 20min). Think of it as a mental massage.

Is there a set number of sessions I will require?
--Number of sessions depends on the extent to which you want to change and extent to which you believe this degree of change is possible
--While people are usually impressed by their 1st session results (e.g., even minimal 10% change in most situations feels like a huge weight lifted), many choose to do several sessions in succession to sort of 'peel back the layers' in succession and see what comes up.
--It's a lot like seeing a therapist in that you decide whether it works for you and whether you want more.
--It's also a lot like seeing a massage therapist because those mental "knots" get softer over time when they don't have enough time to get wound up again.

Can it be done in one shot?
--Yes, some people notice a dramatic turn around after only one session. It really depends on how much you want it, whether you believe it's possible, and on your ability to imagine/visualize the goal and the steps leading to it. Like anything, the more you do it, the more you experience cumulative change. Can you get fit by going to the gym once? Depends what kind of shape you're already in...

I guess the next question would be approximately how much does it cost?
--$70 for 1 session and the 6th session is free.
--I offer groups rates for those with similar goals/concerns such as sales reps and performers or even those wishing to boost weight loss or quit smoking together.

Where does it take place?
--I have an office on Spadina just South of Bloor. Sessions are by appointment only, 7 days a week with start times ranging from 9am-7:30pm.
--I can come to your TTC-accessible home or office when it's convenient for you. All we need is two chairs (or a couch) in an undisturbed room with relative silence. (onsite rate applies)
