Eat all you want!

If it ends up on your plate not too far from how it grew out of the ground (whole, natural): eat all you want! Otherwise, note the following:

If it came out of a package and did not grow out of the earth, you can still eat it, but only as a novelty or curiosity. Enjoy a taste, but don't expect it to keep your engine running efficiently.

Binge on salad with natural dressings. Olive oil + lemon + sea salt tastes great! Tahini + water + lemon + sea salt. Balsamic + dijon + olive oil.

Have a few french fries. Enjoy them slowly. Savour the experience.

Take at least 20 minutes to eat. This is how long the mind-body connection needs to process satiety (feeling of fullness).

Then MOVE. Go for a walk after dinner. Do some puttering around the house. Sure you live to eat because you absolutely love food. But we still must eat to live, and living according to our bodies means moving. Don't like the gym? No problem...just find a form of movement that you and your body can enjoy because you were made to move.

No friends to get moving with? Check out http://www.meetup.com/. Type your interests.

There's nothing wrong with loving all kinds of foods, as long as you don't let it be your only hobby because that can't work anymore than sleeping could be your favourite pasttime. Our bodies want us to sleep and eat so we can do other things in between. What does your mind-body-soul want to do after survival is out of the way?

The Core

I've now been doing motivational hypnosis with clients for a year and a half, and I am starting to notice trends which I suppose should come as no surprise. People come for help with procrastination, stress, thought patterns...all kinds of every day challenges that we all face (self included). But no matter what we call it, the core of each of these challenges can be traced back to self love, acceptance, nonjudgement, and care for the inner child. These words sound so general...but not when you trace back step by step from a particular life obstacle. I can't explain generically how smoking cessation and procrastination trace back to self-love. Maybe not always as lack of or inability to...but rather healthy ways to show love to oneself...releasing self-judgement along the way. I don't know how to convince anyone...I just know it. I struggle with it myself! Buy my book. (just kidding! I don't have one. Yet :-)

Do you know how to show yourself love without being a consumer?
Do you know how to feel good without doing something bad?
Your answers could be our much needed new addictions because I for one am tired of looking for happiness on a plate or hanger.

Getting Results

Is your self-hypnosis working? "They" say it takes 21 days to make a change. Technically you'd need to do your intentioned imagining daily (even better: twice daily) for 3 weeks before saying it didn't work. Even if it's only for a minute each time. However, if it's something you don't really want to do, it won't work even if you went to a hypnotist daily for a year. I know because my self-hypnosis has been very successful in areas like confidence and procrastination, but when it comes to quitting pizza, it's just not something I feel willing to give up. Instead I've learned to get more specific about what pizza I eat (home made hypoallergenic vs. the gluten-dairy-yeast fest that taunts me on every street corner). When the results disappoint, it's rarely by fault of the hypnosis, self-imposed or otherwise. http://www.HypnoSage.com/

Self Hypnosis Workshops

I recently offered a 2-hr Self-Hypnosis Workshop for about 12 youth performance artists aged 13-23. They focused intently on how to script their goals properly, and thrust themselves fully into the process of introspection and relaxation.

I offered another Self-Hypnosis mini workshop (about 40 minutes) to a group of 10 adults at a life coaching retreat and about 20 adults at a yoga, meditation, and nutrition retreat. Adults start out more skeptical but those who get it and want it go for it. It always amazes me how much impact some participants choose to attain in a simple 5 or 10 minute session. I don't even bother with the helium balloon exercise because scripting and visualizing a goal state is tantalizing enough.

I've taken to enjoying little bursts of self-hypnosis - on the ttc, waiting in line, etc. A few seconds of mindful anticipation are better than none.
